In a quest to ensure the safety of its students, Cuttington University continues to blaze the trail by lighting three dormitories with solar powered lights. The initiative is in sync with one of the University’s pillars - “Light CU” a commitment for being a shining star in higher education. Phase one of the installation was done at Rally Hall, Gardiner Hall, and Harris Hall.

The overarching objective of this development is to guarantee that the university is continuously advanced in support of CU’s vision. To add, solar panels and LED lights in dormitories were essential fixtures bearing in mind that the campus does not want to rely on the Jungle Energy Power (JEP) or generator as the main source of electric power. Before this recent development, dormitory students complained that during the hours that the main power house was shutdown, students couldn’t navigate through walkways, because the dormitories were pitched dark. Another thing expressed by students was that the time they had to study was greatly affected, especially during the evening hours.
With the installation of the solar system at the above mentioned dormitories, life in the dormitories will be much improved as they have limitless hours to study and their safety is also improved. The long life span and low energy consumption of LED lights installed will lessen the burden of the high cost of JEP and or Generator fuel.
According to the Administration, the University is also exploring other options of expanding solar electricity to additional buildings and facilities on its three campuses: Suakoko, Kakata & Monrovia.
The Administration of CU has made it clear that it is equally important to maintain and enhance the vision of lighting CU and cares deeply about student safety and wellbeing. The University is committed to ensuring that all the requisite measures in making the University services safe and secure for students and employees are in place.
